What happens in "My Three Crichtons"?

A strange globe appears aboard Moya and draws in John Crichton, leaving the crew to deal with his absence as they pilot the ship toward a routine rendezvous.^[4] The object splits Crichton into three: the astronaut himself, a de-evolved cave-man Crichton, and a highly intelligent Crichton whose mind works at an unnervingly rapid pace.^[4] When the crew of Moya test the newcomers, the brute proves easier to manage than the over-bright one, whose thoughts outrun the room.^[4]

The duplicates bicker with each other and with the original, and the situation grows more difficult when the object returns and begins to target the rest of the crew, threatening to repeat the process with anyone it reaches.^[4]
