Summary
"Crichton Kicks" is the first episode of the fourth season of Farscape, the science fiction series created by Rockne S. O'Bannon.[1] After a season 3 recap, it puts John Crichton aboard the dying Leviathan Elack with the Kalish woman Sikozu, who has guided Grudek scavengers toward it.[4] A wormhole has pulled the living ship Moya in, throwing Crichton clear and leaving him separated from Aeryn Sun, Pilot and the others.[4]
What happens in "Crichton Kicks"?
The episode opens with a recap in which Captain Crais recalls a childhood dream of outer space and Moya's crew debates going their separate ways.[4] Pilot then reports that Crichton is beyond their range, and a wormhole pulls the ship in, throwing Crichton clear of his friends.[4] Separated from Moya, Crichton calls out on the communicator, hoping Pilot will hear him and let him back in.[4] The story then finds him alone aboard the dying Leviathan Elack, singing opera and humming to Elack's Pilot, and joking that he has nearly finished "Wormholes For Dummies."[4]
A small craft comes in out of control and crashes into Elack as Pilot warns the commander.[4] A woman called Sikozu follows it aboard, with creatures close behind her, and asks Crichton what he is going to do for her.[4] Crichton answers with his standard three-years-ago summary of who he is and what has happened to him, including the line about warning Earth.[4] Because Sikozu cannot tolerate translator microbes, she teaches him words by pointing at things while he sings the alphabet to fix them in his mind.[4]
A much larger vessel approaches, and Crichton realizes that Elack is muerta and cannot Starburst to escape.[4] Sikozu explains that the Grudeks are toubray hunters who harvest Leviathan neural tissue for cultures that consume it to enhance brain function.[4] Crichton argues that her work is more like Jacques Cousteau than murder, because she steered the Grudeks toward dying Leviathans.[4] When the Grudeks breach Elack and begin fumigating the interior, Sikozu drags Crichton into a sealed compartment to keep them alive.[4] Crichton tries and fails to negotiate with the Grudeks, telling them to leave in a made-up Klingon phrase, and when Sikozu shoots a Grudek to make the rest think he is dead, their Warlord releases a Brindz Hound.[4]
Sikozu explains that the Brindz Hound is a blood hunter, and the two look for a pressure hatch to a crawl space, disagreeing about where it should be.[4]
When Crichton asks Sikozu whether she has seen Moya, she tells him the ship was swallowed.[4]
