What happens in Terra Firma?

John Crichton has come back to present-day Florida with Moya's crew, and the episode follows his attempt to readjust to ordinary life while the world reacts to the sudden proof that aliens are real.[4]

The United States government sets up a project to study the extraterrestrials and, as a favor to Crichton's father, puts a man named Jack Kryen in charge of it.[4]

Crichton's father explains to him that after the attacks of September 11 he stopped believing in space travel as a way to bring the nations of Earth together.[4]

Crichton, for his part, argues that any knowledge of Moya's crew should be shared with other countries instead of being kept as an American secret.[4]

Crichton's father decorates the house for Christmas, with a tree and lights, to give the reunion with his son a feeling of normalcy even in the Florida climate.[4]

The episode ends with the disclosure that a covert party has put an operative aboard Moya, to stay hidden until more is known about the planet Earth.[4]
