- Summary
- On the planet Valdon, Aeryn Sun meets a stranger who tells her he can put her in touch with her dead father, and she must decide whether to trust him or walk away. The episode follows what Aeryn does with that choice and what the rest of the crew does to find her while she is gone.
- What happens in "The Choice"?
- The episode opens with a recap in which Xhalax tells Aeryn that she was conceived in love, and that Aeryn's superior officers later gave Xhalax a chance to redeem herself by killing Aeryn's father. Aboard Moya, the crew learns that Aeryn has gone down to Valdon on her own, and Chiana and Rygel argue over which of them Aeryn would want beside her while they look for her on the surface.
- On Valdon, Aeryn meets a man who presents himself as a spirit channeler willing to reach her dead father for payment. He gives his name as Talen and tells Aeryn that he is, in fact, her father; a character who identifies himself as Talen Jack then tells her he can do more than simply contact the dead. Stark uses an early Peacekeeper standard blood spectrometer, which he claims is accurate to near 100 percent certainty, and the result proves that Stark is a Sebacean; Stark explains that he altered his own face so he could hide, after which Aeryn tells him goodbye.
- Rygel reports to Crais that Aeryn has masked her signal somewhere inside a city on Valdon, and Crais orders Rygel to stay with her and call the moment he finds her. Chiana and Stark search a hotel and a refugee district, learn that no Sebaceans live in that part of the city, and are directed toward a Stallic Hotel on the far side of town.
- Stark confronts Xhalax and accuses her of betraying Aeryn; Xhalax denies it, saying she paid all of them and would never betray Aeryn. She goes further, telling Stark that she killed Zhaan in order to save the rest of the crew, and that she struck a deal to tell High Command they were all dead so that no further retrieval squad would be sent after them.
- Stark eventually finds Aeryn alone in a room. He refuses to kneel when she draws a weapon on him, and tells her that Zhaan is alive and that she has to come back to Talyn. He adds that he has seen John Crichton and her father on this planet, and Aeryn lashes back, accusing Stark of always wanting to pull her away from Crichton and ordering him not to touch her.
