- What happens in "Meltdown"?
- Unusual radiation pulses draw Talyn into the corona of a sun, and the crew can only hold him in orbit against the pull. After the near miss, a Drexum mist leaks from Talyn's conduits and acts on the crew as an adrenal stimulant, sharpening their senses and their tempers.
- An entity named Sierra, the dead pilot of a perished Leviathan, appears to John Crichton and explains that McQuillis has trapped her between realms. McQuillis then beams aboard Talyn and warns the crew that the star is a siren star that has already killed eighty-three Leviathans, urging them to evacuate. He explains that he can switch between matter and energy states and that he lives in the corona of the siren star itself. Sierra reveals that the Petria, a ship-building race that sees Leviathans as competition, have contracted McQuillis to lure them to their doom.
- Crais fires on McQuillis and forces him to withdraw from Talyn.
