Summary

"The Hidden Memory" is the twentieth episode of the first season of Farscape.^[1] It cuts between two fronts: John Crichton, still held on the Gammak base and strapped into an Aurora chair that probes his mind, and Moya's crew, who are trying both to deliver Moya's newborn and to break Crichton out.^[4] Both threads drive toward a shared plan in which Aeryn Sun takes her own turn in the Aurora chair so that she can use the link to reach Crichton's hidden memories.^[4]

What happens in "The Hidden Memory"?

The episode opens with the crew reacting to a past loss and to Ka D'Argo's plan to leave Moya.^[4] Moya cannot starburst because she has gone into labor, and the crew is told that this is not a natural birthing cycle.^[4] Pilot explains that the way to deliver the newborn is to blast it with coolant from Moya's thermal chamber.^[4]

On the Gammak base, Aeryn is told that Crichton is still being mind-probed in an Aurora chair.^[4] During a break in his interrogation, he uses a slingshot maneuver around a black hole while narrating his standard wormhole pitch.^[4] Gilina reveals a magnetic crypt encoder she built to try to open his cell door, and explains that she can hide her thoughts from the Aurora chair because she is of the Banik slave race.^[4]

Captain Crais visits Crichton in his cell to thank him, claiming that a payoff for wormhole information will let him rise.^[4] Scorpius orders Crais placed in the Aurora chair to verify whether his story is true.^[4] Outside the base, Chiana fools the base's scans with a scanning blind, letting the team move undetected.^[4]

Over comms, Crichton tells Aeryn to focus on their shared memory of a kiss on the Zanian as she enters the Aurora chair.^[4] Aeryn presents him with a tissue graft, the cure implied by the previous episode.^[4] Crichton admits that the kiss on the Zanian is the memory he has been deliberately blocking from the chair.^[4]
