  10. Overview
  11. Wardogs is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by the British studio Bulkhead Interactive and published by Team17. According to Wikipedia contributors, it is built on Unreal Engine 5 and was made available on Steam in early access on 10 September 2026. Releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are scheduled for 2028.
  12. The setting is a fictitious range of abandoned mountains in Eastern Europe, and the game is described as a military simulation. Early access is a paid product: the Standard Edition launched at US$39.99, with a Supporter Edition at US$49.99 that adds cosmetic items only.
  13. This page describes a game one day into early access at the time of the cited sources, so what is documented here is the early-access build rather than the finished release.
  14. Gameplay
  15. Wikipedia contributors record that a Wardogs match puts one hundred players onto a 256-square-kilometre map, divided into three teams that contest a 2x2 kilometre control zone. The team with the most teammates inside the zone wins a point, and players who enter a marked HotZone have their presence in the zone count double.
  16. Every player starts a round with US$10,000 in in-game cash, and a bank balance with red and green profit-and-loss figures is shown at the top right of the screen. Cash can be wagered and traded for gold bars. Bulkhead's CEO, Joe Brammer, said that cash is the best anti-cheat, speaking about the role of the in-game economy. The game does not include a battle pass or microtransactions.
  17. Bulkhead has stated that the early-access version is fully playable and represents the core vision of the game, with content limited to 100-player three-team play, large-scale maps, cash and XP progression, and proximity voice chat. The launch build includes three maps with three variations each, 37 weapons, and 21 vehicle types.
  18. Development
  19. Bulkhead Interactive is based in Derby, United Kingdom, and was founded in 2015 by graduates of the University of Derby. Wardogs development began in Derby and took years.
  20. Before the Team17 deal, Bulkhead had pitched Wardogs to Tencent with a budget of around £10 million to £12 million; Tencent rejected the pitch. The publishing agreement with Team17 followed. Bulkhead laid off workers during development, which affected QA testing.
  21. According to the developers, Wardogs is expected to remain in early access for around one to two years, with the price set to rise at full release. Linux support through Proton is in progress.
  22. Announcement and pre-launch events
  23. Team17 announced Wardogs on 5 February 2026 as a Tactical All Out Warfare game. A gameplay trailer followed on Bulkhead's YouTube channel on 6 June 2026. On 3 September 2026 Bulkhead organised its own showcase, The FPS Games Show, on Twitch, after reportedly being quoted US$300,000 for a 60-second slot at another gaming event.
  24. The first ran from 22 August 2026 according to Wikipedia or from 21 August 2026 according to Tech Times; sources differ on the start day. The first beta drew nearly 500,000 unique players and peaked at 105,774 concurrent players on Steam. The game's director Howard Philpott said the reaction from the FPS community has been insane during the first closed beta. The second closed beta ran from 3 to 6 September 2026 and peaked at 245,118 concurrent players at 17:38 UTC on 5 September 2026, per SteamDB.
  25. Bulkhead announced a US$100,000 Clip Contest at The FPS Games Show on 3 September 2026, with a submission deadline of 23:59 BST on 8 October 2026 and winners expected on 15 October 2026. BisectHosting is the server hosting partner for the game.
  26. Launch and reception
  27. SteamDB recorded Wardogs' release as 10 September 2026 at 15:58:01 UTC; depending on time zone, the game went live on 10 or 11 September 2026 (9 am PST, 12 pm EST, 5 pm BST and 6 pm CEST on 10 September; 2 am AEST and 4 am NZST on 11 September). On launch day the game reached the number one position on the Steam charts within hours, and on the same day Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 entered its own early access, with the two titles directly competing for the top of the charts.
  28. Tech Times noted that beta and early-access concurrent-player counts are different measurements: the closed betas ran on a free Playtest client open only to pre-order holders, while early access requires a $39.99 purchase. Brammer publicly wrote that he expected the game to drop to a floor of 5,000 concurrent players after launch before recovering. According to Wikipedia contributors, on launch day, servers temporarily struggled to queue matches under high load and Bulkhead took the game offline to address the issues; Brammer attributed the problems to Valve rate-limiting the title.
  29. SteamDB, as read on 13 September 2026, listed 43,459 reviews for Wardogs, of which 34,447 (79.3%) were positive and 9,012 (20.7%) were negative. SteamDB's own rating, also on 13 September 2026, was Mostly Positive at 78.09% — a weighted score that is not the same figure as the 79.3% positive share. Steam's own store page on the same date reported 27,404 English-language user reviews with 84% positive (Very Positive), a number that counts English-language reviews only and so differs from SteamDB's total. SteamDB also reported 262,604 Wardogs players live on Steam at the time of reading on 13 September 2026, an all-time peak of 400,196 concurrent players on 12 September 2026, and a 24-hour peak of 400,196 concurrent players. According to SteamDB, the game was ranked first in top sellers, sixth in daily active users, and third in wishlist activity on Steam on that date.
  30. Technical details
  31. The Steam listing records 14 supported languages including English and notes the use of kernel-level anti-cheat software. Wardogs had over one million Steam wishlists before launch.
  32. Compared with Battlefield 6
  33. SteamDB's readings of Steam on 13 September 2026 set Wardogs beside Battlefield 6. They catch the two at very different points: Wardogs had been on Steam for three days and Battlefield 6 for eleven months, so the player figures describe different moments in each game's life rather than the same one.
